CIGAR Virtual Biennial Conference 2021 (24-25 June) and Doctoral Colloquium (23 June 2021) - UPDATE

Public Sector Accounting for a Sustainable Future is the theme of the CIGAR Biennial Conference 2021. As previously announced, the online conference will feature research paper sessions in different areas, coordinated by different chairs. The two-day Conference shall include five streams as follows:

Please submit your abstract of maximum one page with the purpose, design/method/approach, preliminary findings and contribution, to the respective session chair by 15 March 2021. Notification of acceptance will be sent at the end of March 2021. The full paper submission is expected by 20 May 2021 31 May 2021.

Eligible doctoral students can apply and submit their research proposals of max five pages for the CIGAR Doctoral Colloquium by 15 March 2021. UPDATE - 2nd IPSASB Research Forum – Hosted by the CIGAR Workshop 2020 Call for Papers

We would like to draw your attention to the 2nd IPSASB Research Forum that will take place on June 17 2020 in the morning in the Campus Drammen of the University of South-Eastern Norway, in Norway hosted by the CIGAR Workshop 2020.

Due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation, both CIGAR Workshop and IPSASB Research Forum are organised online, whilst doctoral students are offered feedback personally by members of the organising committee.

IPSASB is offering grants of USD 1,500 for research under each of the following topics:

• The Presentation of Financial Statements in the Public Sector;
• Differential Reporting (Financial Reporting for Small and Medium Sized Public Sector Entities);
• Discount Rates in the Public Sector: Rationale for their Use and Determination; and
• Disclosures of Tax Expenditures

The grants will be awarded by an academic advisory committee comprising representatives from IPSASB and the academic community, based on abstracts submitted by 15 December 2019 31 December 2019 (deadline extended). Abstracts should be one-page summaries of the planned approach to the topic selected by the scholar (or group of scholars). Decisions on the award of grants will be taken by 15 January 2020. Scholars who wish to submit a paper without receiving a grant are obviously free to do so. The deadline for submission of draft accepted papers is 10 May 2020.

Participants in the IPSASB Research Forum are expected to follow the registration procedure for the CIGAR Workshop.

The grant recipients, as well as other scholars, will present the first drafts of their full papers at the 2020 Research Forum, in order to receive feedback from fellow academics, IPSASB members and staff. Grant recipients are then expected to finalize their paper by 8 September 2020 and to present it in the week of 15 September 2020 at the IPSAS Board Meeting in Paris, France. Final papers are invited to be published in Public Money & Management, after undergoing a formal peer review process, involving one reviewer from CIGAR and one from IPSASB

UPDATE - The CIGAR Network’s Annual Issue of Public Money & Management (PMM)

PMM has offered CIGAR the opportunity to guest edit a special annual issue of the journal (for each of the next three years starting in 2021: PMM’s 41st volume). This CIGAR annual issue will not have a specific theme—the aim is to present relevant empirical and theoretical research in public sector accounting. The annual issue will showcase CIGAR’s valuable papers and, by doing so, increase their contribution to practice and to academia.
