CIGAR Newsletter January 2025
Dear CIGAR Members,
In our first Newsletter for 2025, we are concluding our debate on public sector audit with an interesting article that highlights the challenges currently faced by SAIs. Another article describes the role of internal audit in public sector organisations, particularly in the Polish Local Government – an important role that is often overlooked and not regarded as important.
During 2025, we wish to start a debate around “The role of public sector in changing times”. We invite you to submit short articles/comments (of around 500 words) on challenges, opportunities and future directions with regards to the role of public sector accounting during man-made and natural disasters, climate change, technology (including AI), budgetary constraints/austerity and service delivery.
In this January Newsletter, Jens Heiling shares his experiences regarding comparative international governmental accounting research. While Michaela Lavender, the Managing Editor of PMM, reports on PMM Live! 2024 held at the House of Lords in London last November.
Our announcements include a special workshop for a FAM publication, and the Call for Papers for the 6th CIGAR-PMM Annual issue. CIGAR is also proud to announce its first Symposium in Latin America. We draw your attention to the imminent deadline (in January 2025)to participate in and/or register for this event.
While we hope that you enjoy reading this Newsletter, may we remind you that submission of abstracts for the 15th Biennial CIGAR Conference Athens in June, closes on 31 January 2025.
Best wishes to you all for the new year,
The CIGAR Newsletter Editorial Board
